What is a Water-Cooled Scroll Chiller?

A water-cooled chiller is a type of HVAC system that uses water to cool the environment. In this type of chiller, hot water produced by the system enters the water-cooled condenser and is cooled by water flowing through a cooling tower. The scroll compressor is a type of refrigeration compressor that compresses the refrigerant gas using two interleaved spiral elements.

Main Components of a Water-Cooled Scroll Chiller

 1.Scroll Compressor

This compressor contains two spirals that rotate around each other to compress the refrigerant gas.

  1. Evaporator

A type of heat exchanger where a liquid reaches its boiling point and evaporates. Evaporators are usually of the shell & tube or plate type.

  1. Water-Cooled Condenser

The hot, compressed refrigerant from the compressor enters the condenser, where it is cooled by water and changes from a gas to a liquid state.

  1. Expansion Valve (EXV)

The expansion valve works opposite to the compressor; it reduces the high pressure from the condenser and prepares the refrigerant for entry into the evaporator.

  1. Pumps and Water Piping

The system water pump and cooling tower pump circulate water throughout the system.

Technical Specifications

  • Compressor Type: Hermetic scroll compressor with low noise, low vibration, and high efficiency.
  • Refrigerant: R407C, R134a, or R410A, depending on capacity, environment, and environmental regulations.
  • Evaporator: Shell & tube or plate type.
  • Condenser: Water-cooled type.
  • Voltage: Single-phase or three-phase.
